In March 2019, St. Andrew Presbyterian Church began a partnership with the Center for Worker Justice called simply: The Big Table. The program was designed to bring together people who love to cook, but need a place to practice their techniques, and those who like to sample food from around the world. As Marcela Hurtado, vice-president of the Center for Worker Justice, explained at the time, “With this pilot project the Center wants to continue with its mission to empower members of different communities. Through the kitchen, we will show the diversity of our cultures. Part of the goal is to develop enough skills so that one day they can start their own business."
COVID-19 caused the program to go into hiatus in mid-2020, but over the past few years, St. Andrew and CWJ have recommitted to hosting meals regularly.
Big Table events in 2025 are scheduled for 6-7 p.m. on April 26, May 30, July 11, and August 15.
