Friends,

Wonderful news! In our June 8 congregational meeting, St. Andrew elected the following members to serve on a Pastor Nominating Committee to begin the search for our next called and installed pastor:

  • Allison Bernard
  • Kathy Duys
  • Twila Finkelstein
  • Peggy Hausler
  • Paul Penn
  • Ted Potter
  • Jason Schuchert

This marks the next major step in our journey to call a new pastor. You can read more about the process in Pastor Carl Anderson’s column in the latest issue of the Messenger:

According to On Calling a Pastor, members of a PNC should be people of integrity who are:

  • deeply involved in the life of the church,
  • spiritually grounded and committed to discernment,
  • willing to devote significant time and energy,
  • capable of maintaining confidentiality,
  • and attuned to the voice of God over personal preference.

Our slate reflects these qualities beautifully:

They’re Committed: Each nominee brings years of steady presence and service—from worship to mission, education to leadership. Their dedication is rooted in a love for this church.

They’re Spirit-Led: In their applications, humility and prayerfulness came through clearly. They are all seeking to follow God’s call.

They’re Experienced: Many bring professional or church-based experience with hiring and discernment. They understand the responsibility, and they know how to lead with care and confidentiality.

They’re Broad-Minded: This team is tuned in to the full range of voices in our congregation. They hope to represent us all, not just a single viewpoint or generation.

They’re Ready to Work: Serving on a PNC requires stamina and collaboration. These folks are prepared for the task—reading applications, hosting interviews, discerning together.

In short, this is a strong, faithful, and Christ-focused team. We’re deeply grateful to each one for saying yes and hopeful the congregation will feel well represented.

inclement weather policy

As we move deeper into winter, it's a good time to discuss St. Andrew's Inclement Weather Policy

The church staff generally follows the lead of the Iowa City Community School District in terms of snow- and ice-related cancellations. If the schools are cancelled for anything other than below-zero wind chills, it's a good bet that the Church Office will be closed as well. If all afterschool activities remain cancelled, St. Andrew's kid-related activities are probably cancelled as well.

Cancellations will be posted to the St. Andrew website and Facebook page, and a push alert will be sent through the St. Andrew AppFor mid-week adult activities, please contact the leader of your group or event or St. Andrew's communication director, Jeff Charis-Carlson (319-333-0205).

On Sunday mornings, decisions about whether to cancel the worship service will be made by 6 a.m. at the latest -- with a congregational email going out as well as all the other communication options listed above. All worship services will be available via livestream on St. Andrew's YouTube channel.

Let us know if you have any questions about the above policy, and please stay safe as the cold winds blow. As the Psalmist says, ours is a God of Winter as well as of Summer (Psalm 74:17).

Food Market Today
(8 a.m. - 7 p.m.)

St. Andrew will be holding its monthly Food Market today (May 28) from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The food is available to anyone who needs it. You do not need to live in Iowa City or have any affiliation with St. Andrew to receive the food.

For questions, call 319-338-7523 or email office@saintandrew-ic.org.

St. andrew Closed WEdnesday (3/5)

Because of slush and high winds, St. Andrew will be following the lead of the Iowa City Community School District and cancelling all activities for Wednesday March 5. If you have any questions, contact your group leader or the church office (319-338-7523, office@saintandrew-ic.org.)

Wind Storm Recovery

As more members of the St. Andrew family recover from this month's devastating wind storm, they are turning their attention to helping their friends and neighbors throughout Eastern Iowa. As we learn of opportunities for clean up and other volunteer efforts, we will post them here.
