visions for st. andrew's property

In January 2020, St. Andrew's Session approved a Land Use Master Plan for the property surrounding our church building at 140 Gathering Place Lane. The plan doesn't not yet include any specific times, but the Session wanted the components of the plan to be posted on the church website so that friends and members of St. Andrew can see the long-term vision for the church property.

Session also approved a Long-Term Land Retention Policy to clarify the process for requesting short-term uses of property that has earmarked for a specific future use.

  • Parking

St. Andrew's parking lots currently have 185 parking spaces. To prepare for future

growth, Session set a goal of reserving enough land to provide a total of 350 parking spaces. After working with engineers from Hall & Hall Engineering, Session approved multiple options for parking expansion.

Session voted to set aside land Session identified Option G (an Eastside lot that would have up to 177 parking spots and provide access to the lower level through the Hub) as a potential long-term parking strategy for St. Andrew--realizing growth may require that parking be added in various phases. Session also has identified Options B, C, and E as potential parking sites--limiting any construction on that land to temporary facilities that could be removed if necessary

The cost estimate for all the parking options considered can be viewed here.

  • Session approved the basic design for an Outdoor Chapel located south of the church building. The original limestone chancel, saved from the Melrose property, should be used.

  • Memorial Garden

A Memorial Garden could be placed within or next to the Outdoor Chapel. It would have an area for contemplation, and perhaps memorial bricks to commemorate loved ones.

  • Walking Path

A path would start at the lower parking lot, go to the Outdoor Chapel, then wind around the retention pond and up the east side of the property to the existing area.

  • Orchard

A number of fruit tress could be placed south of the Lettuce Feed Others garden and along the line of the eventual path to the Outdoor Chapel.

  • Recreation

Land east of the building could be used for various recreational purposes.
